China is the world's leading producer, consumer and exporter of garlic. After several years of efforts, China's garlic has greatly improved its technology in variety improvement, planting standards, processing, packaging and preservation, and some of its products are close to or up to international standards. Including dehydrated garlic such as dehydrated garlic flakes, dehydrated granulated garlic, dehydrated garlic powder, Chinese garlic has a good reputation in the international market and has an absolute competitive advantage. Mainly in the following aspects:
First, environmental advantages. Garlic is a cool and cold crop and is suitable for planting in sandy loam. There are not too many areas suitable for garlic cultivation in the world. China's temperate climate and alluvial soil along the Yellow River are very suitable for garlic growth. Shandong, Jiangsu, Henan and Anhui provinces, represented by Shandong Jinxiang, Jiangsu Pizhou, Henan Qixian and Anhui Bozhou, are the largest garlic production areas in China, with high output and good quality. American garlic is mostly produced in Gillo, California's " garlic village", where it accounts for 80 % of the country's total production. However, this beautiful garlic village is located in the high-tech silicon valley, where planting garlic is expensive and the weather has been bad in recent years, resulting in an increase in the cost of garlic production in the United States. Japan's natural environment is relatively bad, with plains accounting for only 24 % of the country's area. At the same time, Japan is located in the volcanic earthquake zone on the west side of the Pacific Ocean, with frequent earthquakes, with an average of about four times a day across the country. The west and south are also frequently hit by typhoons, often causing disasters.
Second, the output advantage. Since 2004, the sales price of garlic has continuously reached a record high. Influenced by the good news of the garlic market, the garlic planting area in the country has been expanding and the output has increased rapidly. The average output of improved garlic in China has exceeded 15 THM - 2, which is almost twice the average output of foreign garlic. China's garlic industry has played an important role in the international garlic industry. Garlic has also become the single product with the largest amount of vegetable profits in China.
Third, cost advantage. Garlic is a labor-intensive cultivation crop, with a large amount of labor and strong seasonality. China's labor price is relatively cheap and the activation labor cost is relatively low. Meanwhile, garlic needs a lot of organic fertilizer, and requires relatively less inorganic fertilizer and less pesticide. Foreign labor is expensive and the production cost is high.
Fourth, Price advantage. Chinese garlic including dehydrated garlic such as dehydrated garlic flakes, dehydrated granulated garlic, dehydrated garlic powder, has an absolute advantage in price. The average market price in developed countries is more than 10 times higher than that in China. We can see from the comparison of garlic prices in the wholesale markets of the United States, Tokyo and Beijing.
